ChatGPT Slides: Native Decks Inside ChatGPT

Launch coverage based on OpenAI's October 16, 2026 release notes and press reporting — we have not tested this hands-on. Details verified October 2026; OpenAI's help center is the final word on plan availability. No affiliate links in this article.
The setting matters: Slides lives in Space, the project workspace ChatGPT launched on September 29, 2026 to bring a project's pages, files, and work together in one place (it replaces Library on accounts that have it). Slides isn't a side feature — it's the first real content type Space was clearly built for.
What ChatGPT Slides is
ChatGPT Slides turns a prompt into a real slide deck. You start a presentation from a conversation, from uploaded files, from a written outline — or by sharing a sample deck so ChatGPT picks up its style and layout. That's the move traditional AI deck tools fumbled: matching an existing look instead of applying a generic theme.
Once the deck exists, text, images, shapes, and charts can be changed two ways: by hand, directly on the slides, or by asking ChatGPT. The assistant can also generate custom images for the deck, and you can upload your own. Presentations run directly from inside ChatGPT — you can present without leaving the workspace.
The same October 16 release notes also updated GPT-6 Pro in ChatGPT with faster responses, improved tool use, and multiple agents that can handle parts of a task in parallel. Slides is the headline for content work; the agent upgrade is the engine underneath it.

Plans, availability, and how to start
The rollout covers Pro, Business, and Enterprise plan users who meet the requirements and have Space access — on the web and in the desktop app. To start, you ask ChatGPT, in Work mode, to create a presentation in Space.
The notable exclusion is Plus: the plan list in the release notes names Pro, Business, and Enterprise — Plus is not there, and OpenAI has not announced when or whether it expands. The release notes also say nothing about a mobile app version or about any additional cost on top of the plan. This is still rolling out, so eligible accounts may not see it immediately.

The limits and open questions
- No comment-only sharing at launch. Reporting on the release notes says comment-only access is described as a sharing option but not actually available — whoever receives a deck can either view it or edit it. That makes sending a deck to a client for "just feedback" risky until read-only commenting arrives.
- Plus users are outside the gate. If you're on the basic paid plan, Slides is a wait-and-see.
- Brand fidelity is unverified. Style-matching from a sample deck sounds great on paper; whether it holds typography, spacing, and brand colors through a 20-slide deck is exactly the kind of thing to check before a client sees it. We haven't tested this hands-on.
- The PowerPoint add-in is the other path. Since July 6, 2026, ChatGPT has also existed as a PowerPoint add-in that creates and revises slides from a sidebar inside Microsoft's program — useful if your team lives in PowerPoint and doesn't need Space.
What it means for creators
Creators build decks constantly — sponsor pitches, workshop slides, course modules, conference talks, media kits. The parts of Slides that matter most:
- Style matching from a sample deck: the single most creator-relevant feature. Share your branded template once and generate new decks in that look instead of fighting a generic theme on every new talk.
- Research-to-deck in one place: start from a conversation or files — the research chat and the deck stop living in separate apps.
- Real-time client review: shared comments and live co-editing collapse the review loop — once read-only commenting lands, this becomes the way to send decks for approval.
- Native export: PowerPoint, PDF, and Google Slides exports mean the deck you build in ChatGPT can still land in a client's preferred format.
The honest caveat: AI-generated slides still need a human pass on accuracy, numbers, and brand details before they go anywhere public. Faster drafts don't skip the sign-off.
Verdict
ChatGPT Slides is a genuine product move, not a gimmick: native deck creation with style matching, live collaboration, and real-format export, built into the workspace ChatGPT clearly intends as its home for serious work. The plan gate is the catch — Pro, Business, and Enterprise only at launch, with Plus left waiting. If you're on an eligible plan and build decks from research or outlines, it's worth the first test run; everyone else files it under "watch for the expansion."
Bottom line: OpenAI finally gave ChatGPT its own slides — built in Space, styled from your sample deck, exported to the formats clients actually use. Check the plan gate before you get excited.
FAQ
What is ChatGPT Slides?
A native presentation builder inside ChatGPT, announced October 16, 2026. It creates, edits, presents, and co-edits slide decks in Space, ChatGPT's project workspace, with export to PowerPoint, PDF, and Google Slides.
Which ChatGPT plans get Slides?
Pro, Business, and Enterprise users with Space access, on the web and in the desktop app. Plus is not included in the rollout per the release notes.
How do you start a presentation?
Ask ChatGPT, in Work mode, to create a presentation in Space. You can start from a conversation, files, an outline, or share a sample deck so it matches your style and layout.
Can I export slides to PowerPoint or Google Slides?
Yes. On the web you can export to PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides. In the desktop app, decks open directly in PowerPoint or Keynote when those programs are installed.
Can collaborators comment without editing?
Not at launch. Shared comments exist, but comment-only sharing is not available — recipients can either view or edit. That's a real limitation for client review workflows.
Does it cost extra?
The release notes say nothing about an additional cost beyond the plan — but the plan itself is the gate (Pro/Business/Enterprise). Check OpenAI's help center for current details.
